I bought The servant’s directory, or house-keeper’s companion: … To which is annexed a diary, or house-keeper’s pocket-book for the whole year by Hannah Glasse the other day. I was reading through it and found pages of blank household ledgers. It made me wonder if we should be more active in the preservation of our own history? As students of history we look to “boring”, every day sort of items like ledgers, runaway adds, etc to understand how others lived. Someone is going to want to know about US someday too but in our world of computer systems and minimalist living (of sorts :-)) are we causing problems for the “us” of the future?
